Karol Szymanowski – Etude b flat Minor
(9 pages, 5 €)
When I heard the Etude in B minor, the last of the three piano etudes op. 4 by Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) at a piano evening, I was so fascinated by it that I also wanted to play it on the larger instrument, the organ.
That was at a time when I was busy recording the organ works of Felix Nowowiejski (1877-1946), which are now available on six CDs:
Nine Organ Symphonies op. 45, MDG 317 0757-2, (3 CDs)
Four Concertos for Organ op. 56 MDG 317 1997-2, (2 CDs)
Symphonic Poem ‘In Paradisum’ op. 61 (MDG 317 0973-2)
The etude b flat Minor is a piece of only about five minutes, great music with deep expression, which, like Chopin or Nowowiejski, provides insights into the heart of the great Polish nation.
